Architecture
Progress is built on widely used open-source products. The core “application” components of the Progress web application are built on the Java platform, known for its ease of development and deployment on multiple platforms, as well as stability and scalability.
The web components that support Progress are the Apache web server and Tomcat servlet container; both are projects of the Apache Software Foundation and have good reputations in the areas of security, performance, and stability. Oracle provides the database component of Progress, until the migration to MariaDB is complete. All software components are open-source (except Oracle), and can be deployed on Linux or Windows operating systems. Progress was developed using a CMMI Maturity Level 2 appraised software engineering process.
